Objects and Theater
Installation/Performance at 80 Langton Street, San Francisco, 1976
Picture
MORE INFO and images:
Tom Gehrig's "Objects and Theater" (80 Langton Street, 1976) was both an installation and a live performance piece.

Gehrig played an organ to a soundtrack of a foghorn while pulling up a "sail" which read RELIEF.  Using his body as an elemental mechanism, Gehrig had to go into a full body stretch in order to reach the keyboard while he held down the keys on the organ for as long as he could. Accompanying Gehrig was composer Paul Robinson on triangle and  bass drum, played from a distance by a string apparatus. The entire performance lasted 25 minutes.

Also included in the installation were various  objects and other artworks scattered around the space on the floor.
