My artwork references the human condition—the fact that we alter the surface of the planet in both strange and beautiful ways.

![]() Tom Gehrig's piece, "Reconnoitering Confusion Hill" is included in the upcoming exhibit, "After Nature", at Art Works Downtown in San Rafael, California. The theme for the exhibition was inspired by conversations about the blurring of the line between what we consider natural, and what we consider unnatural. At this time in history we're at a point where nature is inseparable from human influence–we have entered the geographic footprint and forever changed ecosystems, the landscape and the climate–leaving the nonhuman life of the planet to respond and adapt, or perish. This is where the line begins to blur.
